FAIRFIELD professional Steve Pownell, the current Manchester and District Golf Alliance captain is reminding the 110-plus clubs not to miss the deadline for entering the inter-team club events.

He is seeking to avoid a repeat of previous years when Alliance secretary Bert Thompson has had to remind clubs to post their entries.

Clubs wishing to compete should have their entry forms submitted by Monday, December 20.

Pownell said: "We are looking for another record entry of more than 105 teams for the 'blue-riband' competition - the Dunham Forest Trophy.

"This is a very competitive format with the club professional and the six best amateurs looking to win the trophy.

"Brookdale will be looking to give a good account of themselves and they will be led by professional Tony Cuppello.

"The Men's Foursomes gives a chance for the higher handicappers in clubs to represent their teams along with their amateur stars.

"There were also first-time winners of the Archie Preston Trophy for Mixed Foursomes in Houldsworth.

"The Saddleworth team did well to reach the quarter-finals in 2004 and will be looking to go one better in 2005.

"The final team competition is for junior teams and will be held at Lowes Park where Dunscar will be looking to defend their title."

Local golfers are invited to enter the Tommy Hilfiger De Vere Winter Golf Challenge with regional qualifiers throughout the winter for teams of four.

Those winners go into a final at the Belfry's Brabazon course, and those eventual winners will enjoy an overnight stay at the De Vere Cameron House, Loch Lomond plus 18 holes on one of Scotland's most exclusive courses.

Mottram Hall and Carden Park are staging regional rounds with entry costing £100 per team.
