Trio sign on for season

10/11/2004

THE Roughyeds have announced that three players have agreed new contracts to slow down the recent exodus of players away from the club.

Long-serving John Hough has signed a three-year deal, taking him to 10 years with the club, while Gavin Dodd and Gareth Barber have signed up for one year.

Chairman Chris Hamilton said: "We are delighted with these signings, particularly John Hough's who has been a real club stalwart.

"The deal takes him through to his testimonial season which is richly deserved.

"Although he was injured last season he helped out with the academy and has always gone out of his way to help the club.

"We were also very pleased to secure the services of Gavin and Gareth for another year."

Mr Hamilton also dismissed suggestions the club were trying to sign Australian Brad Davis.

He added: "I'm very confident Gary Mercer will have a strong team put together capable of challenging for promotion in good time for next season.

"A number of players have left which is sad but players moving from club to club is common in rugby league these days.

"That it why is such a refreshing change to have a player like John Hough at the club who was our first signing for the new club back in 1997."
