THE Oldham Ladies Golf Association (OLGA) staged their final event of the season at Oldham Golf Club with a charity team event for the Joan Hirst Charity Cup.

The winning team were Sue Knebel, Connie Wildbore and Lynn Hallas of Saddleworth Golf Club, on the card from Werneth's lady captain Jane Clark with Brookdale's Julie Pickering and Sue Boothby.

Saddleworth joy continued as Knebel had a hole in one at the 138-yard 11th which has an elevated green - therefore she only found her tee shot after a search for the ball.

Wildbore had the only two of the day - with the hole in one counting as two two's, the team took all the balls!

She also won the nearest the pin competition and another Saddleworth member, Dawn White, won the nearest the line comp.

The Assocation has now been running for five years and have had a charity competition for the past four years the venue circulating round the five clubs.

The host club chooses a local charity as £500 was raised for Dr Kershaw's Hospice.

The National Alliance Cup, initiated and organised by the Manchester Alliance, goes from strength to strength, as this year's competition at Marriott Worsley Park on October 15 has 42 professionals involved.

Last season the Liverpool Alliance took the trophy and will bring two teams, comprising five pros and five amateurs, with a cash prize available for the leading pros for the first time.

Manchester will be captained by Didsbury pro Peter Barber whose playing partner will be Alliance secretary Bert Thompson.

Manchester will also be fielding two strong teams with the other pros being David Valentine, Mike Hollingworth, Anthony Sproston, Steve Pownell, David Screeton, Richard Green, Tim Maxwell, David Smith and Frank Kiddie.
