SAINTS secured a first home win in a game that started at a frantic pace.

Two penalties and a Carl Moore try put them on the backfoot before Danny Tyrrell raced 70 metres to convert his own try under the posts.

Stuart Leake then crossed for West before Aussie centre Ken Kerr charged in at the corner with a Tyrrell penalty giving Saints a 12-10 lead at the break.

Danny Earley extended that when forcing his way over for David Sweeney to add the extras.

West Hull then seemed to lose their composure, giving the Oldham side acres of space down the middle and resulting in tries for Andy Sands and Andy Wallace in the space of five minutes.

Paul Hatton hit back with a try for Hull but Saints wrapped up the points with their sixth try as Sean Whitehead went under the posts and a third goal from Kevin Fitzpatrick completed the scoring.

Saddleworth Rangers found themselves 10 points behind in the first six minutes as Rob Kirk and Rob Norfolk crossed for Stanningley with Steve McGreechie converting the second.

Tries from Tom Kilgannon and Danny Attersall then dragged them back into it before a Mike Banks try and a Kirk penalty put Rangers 16-10 behind.

But a Caine Booth try, converted by Paul Iberson, and an Emerson Jackman try then gave Saddleworth a 20-16 lead at the break.

Stanningley soon hauled themselves level when Scott Hargreaves crossed and, although Kilgannon soon scored his second try of the game, Rangers conceded three late tries from Banks, Paul Wartley and McGreechie to lose 36-24.

Hollinwood proved no match for a big Underbank Rangers side, losing 34-0.

Despite holding them to 12 points in the first half, 'Wood had a shocking 20 minutes after the break as Rangers ran in four tries to win 34-0.

Two early tries from Chris Conway and David Larkin set Shaw Rhinos on the way to a 36-10 victory against Langworthy.

Leading 10-2 thanks to a Conway goal, the sides added a converted try apiece - Adam Walker scoring for Shaw - as the Rhinos led 16-10 at half-time.

They then dominated the second half, scoring four tries through Larkin, Mark Davenport, Rob Mills and Roy Stott - Conway converting two - to run out easy winners.

Shaw make the short trip up Higginshaw Lane on Saturday to play Oldham St Anne's, kick-off 2.30pm.

Despite missing four injured players, Waterhead beat third-placed Normanton 26-12 in a fast-paced National Conference league two encounter.

In a low-scoring first-half, Ben Cockayne had put the hosts ahead with 'Head's reply coming from a Ryan Collins penalty.

But eight minutes after the restart Michael Monroe finished off a flowing move to score a converted try and that was soon followed by one from Darren Nixon.

And, although Cockayne managed a second try, Aaron Whalley and Tony Pemberton both crossed at the other end with some stern defending confirming a comfortable win.
