Flynn’s finish not good enough for Ribble Valley victory

OLDHAM Century's Mark Flynn lost a sprint finish to come second in Ribble Valley CC's 45-mile event.
He was part of a group who broke with 11 miles remaining, but was edged out by half a bike's length by Richard Hepworth.
Ian Short competed in last Saturday's Withington Wheelers' event, the penultimate time-trial competition of the season.
He finished in 27:07 behind Steve Hulme who triumphed in 21:58.
Brian Green came 16th in Sunday's Three Peaks cyclo-cross race as competitors scaled Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside on bike and on foot, covering 60km in the process.
He completed the course in 3:29:27, ahead of team-mate Rob Wilkinson who clocked 4:16:40 for 77th place.
Des Thorpe of Oldham Ruffyeds was 95th overall, and 25th in the veterans category, with 4:20:35.
This Sunday's Oldham CTC clubrun will be to Sparrowpit, near Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, returning via Peaslows to spectate at the afternoon's Hill Climb competition.
Riders should meet on Union Street, Oldham, at 9.30am for a 9.45am.
