Town put on spot before reaching third round

ROYTON Town took time off from their Manchester League exploits to defeat Stoneycroft FC 4-3 on penalties in the Lancashire Amateur Cup second round.

The match went all the way after both sides were level at 4-4 at the end of extra time.

It was 2-2 at half-time after strikes from Ian Hulme and Danny Trainer cancelled out early goals from Stoneycroft.

Hulme gave Town the lead, pouncing on a backheader to slide the ball home, but an 82nd minute equaliser sent the match into extra time.

The Merseysiders took the lead again on 105 minutes before Town levelled again in the final minute through a Chris Humphries penalty.

He scored from the spot in the penalty shootout as did Hulme, Trainer and Pete Wild to send Town through 4-3.

Town's second team went second in the third division with a 2-1 victory at Wythenshawe Town, Matt Bunn scoring both goals.

Chadderton conceded four extra-time goals to exit the FA Vase at the second qualifying round phase and also had player-manager Richard Graham sent off.

Matt Landregan put Town ahead with a 42nd minute penalty after Tony Laidler handled.

But John Toome equalised with just two minutes remaining and David Johnson's own goal set the tone in extra time.

A second goal for Toome followed before strikes from Kelvin Magnus and Tony Howarth sealed victory for Seaham with Graham dismissed for venting his frustration on a referee's assistant.

Oldham Town won 3-0 at Daisy Hill to climb to seventh in the North West Counties League second division.

Winless in their previous five games, they got a flying start when Darren Scanlon put them ahead inside two minutes.

Debutant David Neville was then dismissed before his 16-year-old brother, Lee, helped himself to two goals with a 25-yarder and a angled volley.
