Saddleworth on brink of crown

27/ 8/2004

SADDLEWORTH have the Per-Fit Windows title within their grasp following maximum-points victories over Moorside and Shaw.

Skipper Peter Skuse led the way with the bat as his side posted 200 at Well-i-Hole on Saturday. Aussie amateur Michael Ayre then took 5-28 as Moorside were shot out for 174.

And Saddleworth followed that up with maximum points at Shaw when Ayre again starred with the ball, taking 4-41 to dismiss the hosts for 135.

Steve Chamberlain (44) and Skuse (41 not out) led the charge as they reached their target.

The results leave Saddleworth 38 points clear of Bamford with six games remaining.

  • ROYTONIANS are close to promotion to the Greater Manchester Peregrination League first division despite defeat by Kashmir A.

Roytonians posted 144 in 31 overs with Nick Fawcett (40 not out), Darren Wrigley (36) and Russ Billing (21) their top batsmen. They lost their last four wickets without scoring as medium-pacer Tariq Aziz took a hat-trick.

Sunday's game at Olympic A was abandoned and Roytonians await confirmation on whether they will get maximum points, which guarantees promotion - or five points.
