Oldham’s derby joy

IT was a great weekend for Oldham as they notched impressive Central Lancashire League victories over Heywood and Werneth.

Heywood made 158-9 as Martin Smith took 4-32.

Oldham made light work of wrapping up victory, scoring the 159 they required for the loss of just five wickets.

Smith showed what a fine all rounder he is with 36.

He completed a good weekend's work against Werneth, taking 5-61 as the visitors were all out for 177.

Heino Kuhn and Paul Thompson both scored a half-century as Oldham made 178-2.

Crompton's match at Unsworth was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, but they made amends in fine style on Sunday with an away win against Royton.

Professional Saeed Anwar did the damage, hitting 115 in a total of 204 all out.

In reply, Royton were 138-6.

Royton had also lost out on Saturday at Norden.

They scored just 85, well short of Norden's 202-9.

• SADDLEWORTH have a four-point gap at the top of the Per-Fit Windows Saddleworth and District Cricket League first division.

Having hit 122 in Saddleworth's 276-7, Peter Skuse's 5-29 saw Stayley all out for 266.

Saddleworth also have a game in hand over nearest rivals Bamford Fieldhouse.

Brad Roach hit 104 in Shaw's 197-9 but 60 from Panawennage won the match.

Mohammed Ali Rafi's 109 saw Moorside beat Heyside by three wickets.

Hollinwood were eight-wicket winners against Droylsden.

Greenfield were nine-wicket winners at Austerlands.

• WOODHOUSES closed to within eight points of the JW Lees Lancashire County League leaders.

Chris Atherton's side were undone by Niroshan Bandaratilleke who took 9-69 to bowl Woodhouses out for 177 on Saturday.

In reply, Denton West eased home on 178-4.

They atoned on Sunday though as Atherton took 6-44 to dismiss Irlam for 84.

Woodhouses squeezed home on 85-6.
