ROUGHYEDS player-coach Steve Molloy was impressed after their 34-18 victory at Batley.

Molloy believed it was a closer game than that and was relieved with the win.

He said: "At 16-6 up at half time I wasn't quite sure if that would be enough as there is a significant slope at Batley.

"What pleased me most was that we continued to play good football and score tries."

Molloy found it difficult to single out any player, but was full of admiration for Gareth Barber who scored two tries.

He believes Oldham will only have themselves to blame if they fail to secure a play off place.

Molloy said: "The pleasing thing is that it is now in our own hands. We have some tough games to come.

"I was always confident we could get ourselves in this position."

There was bad news on the injury front with Iain Marsh suffering a suspected dislocated ankle.

On a more positive note the club have announced they have re-signed David Gibbons until the end of the season.

Gibbons left to join Batley in 2002 but 'retired' halfway through his contract earlier this year.

Molloy is delighted to have him back, but warned this Sunday's match with Keighley could be tough.

He said: "David is no stranger to the club and will give the side a real boost.

"They (Keighley) have had a difficult time, but if they lose on Sunday that will mean they will be effectively down.

"That means they are sure to be fighting for their lives."
