Austin mangles Moorside

HEYSIDE continued their promising start to the season with a comprehensive victory at Moorside in the Per-Fit Windows Saddleworth and District cricket league.

Batting first at Turf Pit Lane, they posted 181-9 with Qasar Raiz taking 5-33.

Melbourne Austin was once again the star with the ball for Heyside, taking six for just 12 runs as Moorside were skittled out for 38.

Rock-bottom Austerlands were easily beaten by Greenfield after scoring 109-8.

Ben Johnson took 4-19 at Ladhill Lane for the hosts before Shatrunjay Gaekwad scored an unbeaten 45 as Greenfield coasted to 113-3.

Hollinwood suffered the indignity of being the first side to be beaten by Droylsden after posting a lowly 56.

Tony Power (5-27) and Hamid Zia (5-29) shared the wickets, enabling their top order to comfortably steer Droylsden to victory on 58-2.

Saddleworth moved up to fourth after victory at Stayley who managed a competitive total of 146-8 with top-scoring Sakeel Saddique making 72.

But skipper Peter Skuse led the way with a knock of 40 as Saddleworth reached their target with four wickets to spare.

Shaw's mixed start to the season continued with a home defeat to Bamford Fieldhouse.

Tariq Maqsood took four for 33 as Shaw posted 173-7.

Bamford's West Indian paid man Lincoln Roberts then took centre stage again with an innings of 79 as Bamford scored 176-4 in reply.

Elsewhere, Micklehurst secured a three-run victory at Friarmere.

Batting first they managed 181- 9 before dismissing their hosts for 178.

Bilal Khiljee (5-59) was their matchwinner despite Andy Walker's spirited knock of 40 for Friarmere.
