Hill’s hopes halted

26/ 5/2004

WOODHOUSES' comprehensive victory at Cheetham Hill keeps them at the top of the Lancashire County League.

Batting first, they rattled up 263-2 with Alan Starmer scoring an unbeaten 112 and good supporting knocks coming from Dan Brittas (64) and skipper Chris Atherton (64 not out).

In reply, Cheetham Hill fell short on 131-9 from their 50 overs with Mike Cassidy their chief tormentor, returning figures of 3-29 off his 14-overs.

Woodhouses also progressed to the area final of the Village Cup by defeating Preston outfit Wrea Green by nine wickets.

The visitors posted just 103 with Doug Sloane (2-29), Atherton (2-20) and Joe Wolfenden (2-29) sharing the spoils.

Cassidy (55 not out) and Alan Starmer (45 not out) then led the way with the bat as Woodhouses reached their target in 14 overs with just one man down.

They play away at Great Eccleston in the area final on Sunday, June 13.
