Folly of facing Waterhead

WATERHEAD'S under-12s rounded off a great season with a 22-12 victory at Folly Lane.

They set off at breakneck pace, resulting in the first two tries of the game through Tom Whitehead and Wayne Blakeley, George Ford converting one of the scores.

To their credit, Folly Lane did not lie back and roared back at Waterhead, levelling the scores at 10-10 at half-time with two fine tries of their own.

In the second period, Waterhead upped a gear and looked comfortable in possesion.

Loose forward Aaron Brown finished off a great move, Ford goaling.

In the final 10 minutes PJ Kilgannon, Waterhead's latest signing, scored his first try for his new team when he powered over by the posts, Ford again converting the try.

Earlier in the week, the under-12s ended their home campaign with a 20-10 victory over Crosfields.

Waterhead's under-10s scored 10 tries and 50 points as they powered to victory over Culcheth on Sunday.

The Oldham boys produced some flowing rugby, culminating in first tries of the season for men-of-the-match Mark Crossley and Daniel Prestwich.

The other tryscorers were Danny Yates, Richard Joy, Ben Whitehead (two each), Adam Steeple and Jordan Arundale (one each).

Goals came from Prestwich, Thomas Fearon, Joe Wild, Joel Hyland and Aaron Webb.

Steeple won the playmaker award, Wild was named top tackler and Webb most improved player.
