Stockport shutout culminates North West Two campaign

OLDHAM RUFC completed their North West Two home campaign with a 10-0 shutout against Stockport and had Marlon Miller to thank for two key interventions.

First, the winger put them ahead with the only try of the game midway through the opening half after a move that spanned the length of the field.

Peter Scrivens' kick from close to his own line was charged down and the rebound fell to Chris Jones who released Miller to race half the length of the pitch and score his 11th try of the season with Jon Farrell converting from the touchline.

Then Miller's last-ditch tackle denied back row forward Peter Bredenkan who had broken from halfway and looked destined to score.

Oldham's Guy Barlow and Stockport's Dane Eccles were both sin-binned after a second half clash but it did not affect the outcome. The visitors elected to run two of three penalties and failed to capitalise before Rick Adamson missed a simple kick from in front of the posts.

Miller then almost sealed victory with a second try but was held up just short of the line. Oldham added their final points in the last minute as the trusty Farrell kicked a penalty from the touchline to seal a satisfying victory that leaves them fifth in the table with only a visit to Rochdale to come.
