Concern at Cup triumph

ROUGHYEDS boss Steve Molloy was relieved to see his side scrape home in the Law Cup game against Rochdale Hornets.

Describing the match as "not pretty", Molloy said: "Although it's pre-season and we have not played a lot of football I thought at times Rochdale showed more commitment than us and that was a concern for me which I have addressed with the players.

"Having said that a win is a win and we have several new players settling in.

"We played reasonably well when we had our full strength side out.

"When I made changes, we dropped off and in the second half allowed Rochdale back into the game."

Molloy was also pleased with the new faces in the team.

He said: "Ian Watson and Paul Southern have plenty of experience and they will be a great help to the younger players, many of whom haven't played at this level before."

On the injury front Dane Morgan is a major concern and is to see a specialist on an upper arm injury he picked up in the game.

Molloy said: "We fear it could be ruptured which is a worry for us.

"We can't really afford injuries to quite a thin squad, especially to a player of Dane's quality."
