Clayton finally signs

CONTRACT rebel Adam Clayton will sign a new 12-month deal with Oldham this week.

Chairman Chris Hamilton confirmed to the Advertiser that Clayton will tie up a new contract before the season kicks off on February 1.

Player-coach Steve Molloy said: "The format for the Academy next season has just been released and I feel it will give us a much better indication of how far off - or not - youngsters like Adam are from the first team."

"Last year's competition meant the gap between that and the first team made it a huge step-up as we found with Adam Sharples who - while not letting anybody down - struggled to adjust to the pace of the game."

Mr Hamilton added: "As with the others, Adam is a lad with a chance of making his mark."
