SADDLEWORTH gained their first Arriva Trains Conference division one win of the season with a hard-fought victory.

They took a third-minute lead through Kevin Fitzpatrick's penalty before the visitors took the lead halfway through the opening period with Dave Clarke's try and Mike Oldcorn's drop goal.

Fitzpatrick and Oldcorn traded penalties before a five-minute purple patch in the second half saw Rangers take control of the game.

A try from debutant Simon Parish on the hour, converted by Fitzpatrick, set them on their way and four minutes later Paul Iverson went in at the corner to give them a 14-7 lead.

Fitzpatrick kicked his fourth goal in the final minute to make the final score 16-7 in Saddleworth's favour and give them their first win at the 11th attempt.
