Three-asy does it for Town

15/10/2003

THERE were mixed fortunes for Oldham Town and Chadderton at the weekend as they were at opposite ends of 3-0 scorelines.

Town's man-of-the-moment James Curley notched his 10th goal of the season in their victory over the second division's basement club Daisy Hill at the Whitebank Stadium. It had taken the local side 35 minutes to break the deadlock, Steve Gavin chipping over keeper Danny Vickers.

Curley got in on the act, scoring the second with 20 minutes remaining from John Joyce's free kick. The third goal came with three minutes left, debutant Brian Nugent sliding the ball home from John Parkinson's pass.

Chadderton lost by three goals at Eccleshall, having wasted a good opportunity to take the lead through Jamie Lester. The opener arrived on 26 minutes when Russell Demattio scored after Darren Ford saved Carl Williams' effort.

Chadderton's Danny Fahey lobbed over minutes later, but Eccleshall doubled their lead on 65 minutes through Steve Hassall. Demattion concluded the scoring on 80 minutes to give the hosts the points.
