Swooping for Saint

THE Roughyeds have continued their squad building for the new season with the signing of Gareth Langley from St Helens.

The 21-year-old winger agreed a one-year deal on Tuesday afternoon and becomes the 23rd member of Steve Deakin's squad.

Oldham fought off competition from Leigh Centurions to land Langley, who can boast some Super League experience, having turned out for the champions in their match at Les Catalans last season.

Chairman Chris Hamilton said: "He was the runner-up in the senior academy player of the year awards last year, having won it the season before that.

"He's now too old for the senior academy and although St Helens wanted to keep him, they weren't able to fit him in the first-team squad."

Another new arrival, Said Tamghart, arrived in Oldham with his wife on Wednesday to spend three days in the borough.

In that time, he will look around the area and meet his new teammates, although the club is still continuing to chase players for next season.

Hamilton said: "We want to end up with 24 or 25 players and there's a bit of toing and froing still to do.

"We're still active in terms of talking to people and from our point of view, the sooner it's all done, the better."
