ANOTHER Sunday and another defeat for an Oldham side which again suffered a crushing loss to create an all-time club record of 16 straight defeats.

Winger Andy Gorey bravely played through the pain barrier to score two tries, while Wayne Corcoran and Phil Farrell showed some neat touches, but the side lacked direction and organisation and was guilty of elementary errors.

Gorey had the game's first chance when he gathered a stray Batley pass, but was easily taken by fullback Craig Lingard as he stepped inside.

Batley immediately took play to the other end where former Roughyed Martin McLoughlin looked certain to score, only to drop the ball as he went for the line.

A rare piece of rugby then followed as Batley won the scrum against the head and loose forward Andy Boothroyd sent John Gallagher over for a try under the posts. Jay Duffy added the first of his six goals.

Oldham began to attack the home line as Mark Roberts and Corcoran released Dean Gorton to sidestep his way over for a try converted by Corcoran.

Receiving a restart kick has proved difficult for this Oldham team in the past, and this time proved no exception as Roberts made a hash of collecting the ball and Chris Langley hacked on for the easiest of tries. Duffy again goaled.

Batley were in again on 25 minutes as McLoughlin and Gallagher combined to send Lingard racing in at the corner before the fullback grabbed his second try three minutes later. Duffy's goal made it 22-6.

Langley, Gallagher (two) and Duffy went over in the second half, although Gorey grabbed a double of his own with tries following runs of 50 metres and 30 metres.
