Oldham Roughyeds 8 Hull KR 48

Gavin Browne
10/ 4/2006

OLDHAM'S LHF Healthplan National League One campaign had the worst possible start as they conceded nine tries at Boundary Park.

While the effort was there from the Roughyeds, Rovers showed the difference between part-time and full-time teams as they always had too much for the hosts.

James Webster led the way with a hat-trick for Rovers, two coming in the first half along with scores from Damien Courturier and Scott Merrell as they built a 20-4 half-time lead.

Alex Wilkinson had crossed for Oldham whose injury plight was so bad, it meant Oldham St Annes' pair David and Jason Best played the match as trialists.

The second half saw Tommy Gallagher, Ben Cockayne, Webster, Merrell and Leroy Rivett score for Rovers, Courturier kicking five conversions.

Oldham's only score was by way of Mick Redford's try as they now prepare for Easter's double-header against Rochdale Hornets (Good Friday) and Doncaster Lakers (Easter Monday).
