Propping up the squad

Gavin Browne
24/11/2005

OLDHAM chairman Chris Hamilton said that new props are top of the club's shopping list as they finalise their squad for the 2006 season.

This week's signings of Chris Maye and Dean Gorton took the number of Roughyeds players signed on to 18, four short of the 22 desired by coach John Pendlebury.

However, there is a shortage of players able to play in the front row with Hamilton admitting the focus was now on acquiring men able to offer the necessary grunt.

He said: "We know that prop is a position where we want to bring someone in.

"It is an ongoing process and we're speaking to people from overseas as well because we haven't got an overseas player as yet.

"Again though, it's about bringing in the right person for the right position within our model."
