It’s a family affair for the Roughyeds

OLDHAM chairman Chris Hamilton spoke of his pleasure at landing a family double after the Roughyeds announced the signing of Ged Corcoran.

The 23-year-old Irish international follows brother Wayne who signed for Oldham last week.

Mr Hamilton admitted the club had not intentionally gone after signing both players to start off with.

He said: "We spoke to Wayne first but were aware of Ged.

"We thought initially he was going to resign with Dewsbury, but we sat down with him and were pleased to get him to come to Oldham.

"He's just played for Ireland in the recent European Championships and, for a relatively young lad, has plenty of experience.

"He's still very keen to progress in the game which is exactly what we want."

Joining the Corcorans is centre Alex Wilkinson who signed a new one-year contract on Tuesday.

He had been the target for other clubs including beaten Grand Finalists Whitehaven, but chose to remain with his hometown club.

News on Gavin Dodd's future remains unclear with the club saying they are still in the dark.

Mr Hamilton added: "Alex enjoyed his time here last year and John (Pendlebury, coach) is looking forward to working with him and vice versa.

"Gavin's still got options in union and league but we'll have to do what's best for the club.

"We'd like him to sign but I'm not sure Gavin knows what he's going to do."
