Nine enter Hall of Fame

2/11/2005

TERRY Flanagan and Aex Givvons are two new inductees into the Roughyeds Hall of Fame.

They are among nine names revealed by the Oldham Rugby League Heritage Trust, taking the Hall of Fame members' tally to 19.

Flanagan, who joined the club in 1979, played 281 games for Oldham and was a Great Britain tourist in 1984.

Givvons joined the club from rugby union in 1933, staying until 1942 but returning six years later to join the staff and staying until 1995.

Two of the club's 1927 Challenge Cup-winning squad of 1927, Jack Read and Fred Ashworth were also chosen.

Arthur Lees (1891-1907), Harry Ogden (1940-1956), Sid Little (1951-1959), Mike Elliott (1962-1979) and Kevin Taylor (1962-1977) are the other inductees.

Spokesman Brian Walker said: "The record books confirm that the Oldham club has developed well over 100 international players, dozens and dozens of county representatives and has had thousands of players passing through its ranks."

The official induction ceremony will be at the Clayton Arms on November 24.
