Coach talks start this week

OLDHAM directors Chris Hamilton and Sean Whitehead will sit down this week and interview some of the applicants to replace Gary Mercer.

The deadline for applications passed yesterday (Wednesday) with the duo now facing the responsibility of choosing who they think can steer Oldham into Super League for 2007.

Mr Hamilton said: "We are pleased with the response we've had. There were a few people that hadn't previously applied.

"We've spoken to a couple of them already with regards to fixing up interviews. There are two or three that we'll definitely be sitting down with this week."

Despite the departure of Ricky Bibey to Leigh Centurions, there has also been no movement on player contract talks for 2006.

Club officials spoke with players at their end-of-season awards night on Saturday.

That saw Gavin Dodd win player of the year awards chosen by Mercer and supporters, Marty Turner named players' player of the year, Simon Svabic win the Roughyeds Kids award and Jimmy Kirkland named young player of the year.
