Skipper stays

OLDHAM’S preparations for this Sunday’s Co-operative National League Two have been boosted with the news that skipper Rob Roberts has signed a one-year deal with the club for 2009.

Following last week’s news that Mick Nanyn is to leave for Super League side Harlequins, Roberts’ new contract is a timely shot in the arm for the Roughyeds.

In contrast to the majority of this year’s squad, Roberts had signed a one-year deal on the premise that he would be emigrating to Australia with his girlfriend.

Chief executive Chris Hamilton said: "At the time ‘Two Bobs’ signed his one-year agreement it was thought he and his girlfriend would be moving to Australia later this year, but they are staying for at least another 12 months now and Robert wants to stay with Oldham for another season. Naturally, we are really pleased about that.

"Two Bobs is very influential around the club and both on and off the field, and I am sure the fans and everyone else at the club will be delighted he has signed another deal."

Oldham and Doncaster meet at Boundary Park on Sunday, knowing that the winner goes straight to the Co-operative National League Two Grand Final on September 28.

However, the loser still has a second chance of reaching the final as they will be at home to the winner of the match between Keighley Cougars and Rochdale Hornets.

Honours have been even between Oldham and Doncaster so far this year with one win each from the two league games.

In the event of Oldham beating Doncaster, tickets for the Grand Final at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium will go on sale from the Boundary Park ticket office after the match for one hour.

Seating and standing tickets are available, the latter costing £15 for adults and £8 concessions.

The seats are for the North Stand and are priced as follows: centre section – adults £20, concessions £10; towards the posts – adults £16, concessions £8.

Concessionary prices apply to students aged under 18 who are in full-time education, but they must produce a valid students’ ID card.
