In the hands of others

20/ 8/2008

OLDHAM chief executive Chris Hamilton believes the Roughyeds will have to go through the play-offs in order to win promotion.

Although level on points with Barrow Raiders, the Cumbrians have a game in hand and a much better points difference, meaning they only require one win from their final two matches to take second spot.

The first of those games is on Saturday when the Raiders visit Swinton Lions, 24 hours before Oldham bring the curtain down on their league season when they host Workington Town.

Having seen Oldham beat the Lions last weekend, Mr Hamilton is pessismistic about the possibility of an upset.

He said: "With all due respect to them, I don’t think they’re good enough to stop a Barrow side who have the finishing line in their sights. At least on Sunday, we’ll know what we have to do and if it is the play-offs, we have three weeks to prepare."

MICK Nanyn’s broken thumb has had a cast fitted which should be removed on September 4.
