Deakin's a a happy man

OLDHAM coach Steve Deakin was a happy man at the end of a hectic week on and off the field.
Having seen his side beat Doncaster 36-16 on Thursday night, the Oldham boss revealed the victory had capped a busy few days in which he had been given another grandchild and seen another of his children accepted into the priesthood - necessitating a two-day trip to Madrid.
With 10 days until Oldham are next in action, Deakin and his squad have the chance to ease aching limbs after a game in which Craig Littler (broken jaw), Ian Hodson (broken nose, concussion) and Jason Boults (strained medial ligaments) all collected injuries.
Deakin said: "We were massively busted at the end and I thought we showed a lot of character. We had a little bit of luck, you can't get away from that, but one thing people over-exaggerate is the scoreline.
"People in other sports tend to get carried away with the scores but we're not apologising for winning by 20 points. We know we have a fair amount to do.
"I thought we started pretty well, then we had a spell where we couldn't buy a completed set, and then we lost our discipline a bit which gave them a little bit of impetus but we managed to see the half out.
"The little bit of luck with (refereeing) calls went our way. We had some people knocked about but we got what we deserved."
