‘Braddy’ bids to bring crowds back

9/ 7/2008

ROUGHYEDS’ new commercial manager Michael Bradshaw has set his sights on boosting the club’s fanbase.

Mr Bradshaw, or ‘Braddy’ as he is known in the town’s rugby league circle, was appointed to the full-time role last week.

Having worked behind the scenes at Leeds Rhinos and Bradford Bulls, the long-time Roughyeds supporter is hoping to use that experience to help drive Oldham forward.

He said: "In 10 years with Super League clubs, I’ve picked up a lot of positives and a few negatives, which I can turn into positives. I enjoyed my time with Leeds and Bradford and I have nothing but total respect and admiration for both clubs; but I was never a fan, like I’ve been an Oldham fan since I was a boy. It’s an absolute honour and a privilege to be working for Roughyeds. The club is ambitious and it’s going places – no dout about that – and I want to be part of it.I honestly believe I’m the right man for the job. I like to think I know a bit about the rugby league scene in Oldham at all levels and I fimly believe that there is the potential here to propel the club back to Super League.

"It’s what the Roughyeds board of directors want and I’m fired up to help them to achieve it.It will take a few years, I know, but the club will get there, I’m sure of that. The town deserves it; the club deserves it; and the supporters deserve it. I’m one myself and I know how they feel.  A lot who have perhaps drifted away say they would support us in Super League, but I will be trying to convince them that we need them back now, immediately, to help us to achieve that goal. We need bums on seats."

Based in Watersheddings, Mr Bradshaw coaches Waterhead’s under-12s side and the Roughyeds are expecting good things from their latest signing.

"As commercial manager he will be tapping into the town’s business sector, but he will also have a marketing responsibility," said the club’s chief executive, Chris Hamilton.

He added: "We hope he can help us to develop that side of the business. He is certainly well known and well connected and he has loads of enthusiasm."
