Oldham Roughyeds 42 London Skolars 20

Gavin Browne
9/ 6/2008

EIGHTEEN points from Mick Nanyn guided the Roughyeds to their seventh win of the campaign and kept their visitors at the bottom of Co-operative National League Two.

The centre converted all seven of Oldham's tries, one of which came courtesy of himself during the second half at Sedgley Park.

Having been beaten at Wakefield last Sunday and Gateshead in midweek, it was of little surprise that physical and mental fatigue crept into the Roughyeds' performance.

They had led 24-6 at half-time as Neil Roden, Simeon Hoyle, Tommy Goulden and Rob Roberts crossed for tries converted by Nanyn.

Matt Thomas registered a try, converted by Paul Thorman, for the Skolars who closed to within eight points 10 minutes into the second half thanks to efforts from Joe Brown and Alan Barker, as well as a Thorman kick.

Both sides traded further tries, Nanyn for Oldham and Corey Simms for London, as the Roughyeds led 30-20.

They made the game safe with two more converted tries in the final five minutes from Goulden and Paul O'Connor.
