Oldham 30 Swinton Lions 20

19/ 5/2008

TWO tries in the final six minutes gave the Roughyeds three points just as Swinton seemed set to end Oldham's nine-month unbeaten run at Boundary Park.

Danny Halliwell and James Coyle were the men responsible for ensuring Oldham racked up a 13th consecutive home victory stretching back to last August.

Despite outscoring their visitors by six tries to four, Oldham would have offered little to impress watching Wakefield coach John Kear ahead of their Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final.

The Roughyeds twice came from behind to lead 14-12 at the break as tries from Halliwell, Tommy Goulden and Lucas Onyango, plus a Mick Nanyn conversion, offset scores for Marlon Billy and Gary Hulse, both of which were converted by Richie Hawkyard and Chris Frodsham.

Billy crossed twice in the second half to give Swinton a 20-18 advantage, Nanyn having crossed for Oldham who were left to rely on a late surge.

Halliwell outjumped Billy to score from Neil Roden's high kick before Coyle darted through a gap to score, Nanyn converting both to give Oldham a somewhat flattering margin of victory.
