Feel afraid

30/ 4/2008

ROUGHYEDS’ coach Steve Deakin wants his players to feel ‘frightened’ as they prepare to face Blackpool Panthers at Boundary Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Deakin was irate at the way his side allowed Rochdale Hornets a bonus point by conceding two late tries last weekend, turning their 24-4 lead into a less than satisfactory 24-14 scoreline.

With players on the way back from injury, Deakin hopes they can put pressure on those currently in the starting 13.

He said: "We need to get people back on board. We need people frightened to death of coming up with ordinary performances because there’s some ordinary stuff being played. We’ve got some people coming back from injury and I can guarantee there will be a couple of changes for the Blackpool game."

Mick Nanyn should be OK to face Blackpool despite collecting a calf injury against the Hornets on a day when he reached the 150-point mark for the season.

The centre, who has chalked up nine tries and 57 goals in 13 appearances for the club, is now well on course to beat Pat Rich’s club record of 320 points, garnered during the 2001 campaign.

  • THE Roughyeds are taking bookings for the supporters’ bus heading to Dewsbury Rams for the Carnegie Challenge Cup tie on Sunday, May 11.

It leaves the Social Club at 1pm and the Black Horse 15 minutes later with seats costing £12.50 each.

Bookings can be made with the club on 0161 628 3677 or with Joyce Pilkington on 0161 665 1832.
