Given a Rams raid

23/ 4/2008

OLDHAM will face National League opposition in the last 16 of the Carnegie Challenge Cup after being handed a fifth round trip to Dewsbury Rams.

Tuesday night’s draw, made as the Advertiser went to press, saw the Roughyeds given a tie at a Dewsbury side who progressed into round five with a 26-12 victory at Batley Bulldogs.

Rams presently sit bottom of Co-operative National League One with only two bonus points to show for their four league matches thus far after defeats against Celtic Crusaders, Halifax, Leigh Centurions and the Bulldogs.

The draw is: Hull KR v Huddersfield Giants; Barrow Raiders v Wakefield Wildcats; Dewsbury Rams v Oldham; Bradford Bulls v Catalans Dragons; Wigan Warriors v Whitehaven; Widnes Vikings v Hull FC; Harlequins v Leeds Rhinos; St Helens v Warrington Wolves.

The matches will be played on the weekend of May 10-11 with the final taking place at Wembley on Saturday, August 30.

It was also announced after the draw that the St Helens-Warrington and Hull KR-Huddersfield Giants games would be the televised matches, taking place at 3pm on May 10 and 1.15pm on May 11 respectively.

Ian Hodson, who was cup-tied for Oldham’s victory at Swinton Lions last weekend, could be in the frame to make his second debut for the Roughyeds when Rochdale Hornets visit Boundary Park on Sunday.

Injuries are continuing to pile up for Steve Deakin’s side, although Lee Wingfield will turn out for the reserves who face Rochdale at Mayfield on Thursday night.
