Oldham Roughyeds 36 York City Knights 26

Gavin Browne
31/ 3/2008

THREE tries in seven second-half minutes ultimately proved the difference as the Roughyeds recorded their third victory from three Co-operative National League Two games.

The teams had been level at 14-14 going into the second half, only for Oldham to build a large enough lead to give them three points.

Tries from Gareth Langley and Danny Halliwell, plus three goals from Mick Nanyn, meant Oldham were on terms at the break after York had twice come from behind to lead 14-12.

Neither side was helped by a stop-start game where the officials somehow saw fit to award 28 penalties, 16 of them going to the visitors.

Nevertheless, tries for Tommy Goulden, Said Tamghart and Paul O’Connor - all converted by Nanyn - put the Roughyeds 32-14 ahead and well set for victory.

Both sides then traded tries, Nanyn going over to give him 16 points for the afternoon, but it was York who had the last word when Danny Ratcliffe crossed for a converted try with two minutes remaining to hand the City Knights a bonus point.
