Army appeal

THE Roughyeds are asking supporters to make a donation to the Army when they visit Aldershot for Sunday’s Powergen Challenge Cup tie.
The Army are not allowed to charge admission prices for any event at their Queens Parade Stadium, so Oldham’s fans will be asked to make a donation on the day, all of which will go to the Army charity soldiersleague.com which looks after injured servicemen and soldiers who have fallen on hard times.
Fans travelling will be asked to donate £5 or £3 for children and OAPs.
Oldham chief executive Chris Hamilton said: "We are very appreciative, as a club, of what the Army does in terms of protecting the country. Many British soldiers are involved in hostilities around the world.
"The donation scheme is the club’s gesture to the Army and we felt it was the least we could do to help the men and women who are in need as a result of injuries incurred on active service.
"Fans should know also that all profits from the refreshment huts and bars at the grouind go to this charity. Army personnel will be making arrangements for collecting the fans’ donations when we get down there."
It is hoped that the match, which starts at 1.30pm, will be broadcast live to all Army bases worldwide by the British Forces Broadcasting Service.
BFBS have said they will do something on the game, but hope to obtain the relevant funding and approval.
