Date set for Onyango’s op

Roughyeds' winger Lucas Onyango will go under the knife in a fortnight to cure his shoulder problem.
The Kenyan’s operation will be performed at Salford’s Capio Oaklands centre on January 25 with a 12-week absence being the worst case scenario for player and club.
"There is always a chance that the injury won’t prove as bad as we think, but we won’t know until the surgeon operates," said Oldham chief executive Chris Hamilton.
On the pitch, Oldham’s preparations for the forthcoming season begin this Sunday when they face Leeds Rhinos at Headingley in Kevin Sinfield’s testimonial match.
That will be followed by the visit of Super League side Hull KR to Boundary Park on January 20 and the Law Cup match at Rochdale Hornets seven days later.
Oldham coach Steve Deakin had only been seeking to play two pre-season matches, but was more than happy to fit in the game for Oldham-born Sinfield
Deakin said: "He is a tremendous ambassador, not only for rugby league but for the town, and it’s only right and proper that we should be the opponents for his testimonial game."
