Holden and Fish claim title

MICHAEL Holden and Rachel Fish won Bamford Bowling Club’s mixed pairs knockout last Saturday night.

In the final they beat Karen Johnson and Ian Rutter 21-7.

THE Thwaites’ men’s knockout and AC Ventilation Ltd ladies’ knockout continue at Norden tomorrow, practice 5pm, start 5.30pm, strike-out when called.

Games will be:

Thwaites: I Howard and A McMahon (Leeds) v M Johnson and P McLellan (Bamford); RJ Lorimer and J Eccles (New Street) v L Bebbington and T Chesters (Frodsham/Crewe); A Dewhurst and partner (Buersil) v J Haslam and A Topham (Bolton); S Crowther and J Gloag (Stockport) v S Shaw and B Warrington (Thistleyfield).

AC Ventilation Ltd: E Pye and B Horman (Blackburn) v T Lawrence and B Chaffer (Leeds); J Gloag and J Brownley (Stockport) v M Young and P Gaynor (Widnes).

Last weekend’s qualifiers for finals night were: Thwaites - I Holden and D Wood (Todmorden). AC Ventilation Ltd: M Hancock and A Hayes (Burnley).

ENTRIES are being taken for the May Brown Memorial Trophy open pairs knockout which will be played at Spotland Reform on 17 August. The entry fee is £5 per pair and entries should go to Michael Hadaway on 07826 94149 or Joanne McDermott on 01706 769389.

LAST weekend’s Margerie Pearson Memorial Trophy knockout, played at Falinge Park, was won by Carol Hartley who beat Adele Cooke 21-18 in the final.

The event raised £225 for Christie Hospital.

Unclaimed raffle prizes were for purple 857, and yellows 409 and 421. To claim prizes ring 01706 639928.

GREATER Manchester beat Lancashire in a Drakes Pride Junior County Championship match on Sunday. The score at Ladybarn was 210-184 in favour of Greater Manchester. Buersil’s Kyle Kirby was a 21-15 winner as GM won 228-175 in Wigan.

THE Rochdale and District junior pairs handicap will be played at Queens Park in Heywood tomorrow, start 11am.

All games will be 21 up, handicaps shown in brackets.

The draw is: J Duckworth and J Howarth (7) v R Diggle and AN Other (0); Winners of first match v J Baker and J Murphy (4); G Smith and C Malor (2), v J Lindsey and K Brady; K Kirby and B Stapleton (-3) v C Harvey and S Harvey (3); A Lomax and D Jones (8) v D Geldart and C Wilson (2).

CUTGATE Baptist Church Bowling club is hosting an open day.

Young and old, with a keen interest in bowling, are invited to the Upper Passmonds Grove club.

An open day will be held today at 1.30pm. Bowls are provided. Parking is at the rear of Cutgate Shopping Precinct.
