Duo's voucher victory

A FULL field of competitors enjoyed a fabulous course when they took part in the first WGTB mixed pairs competition of 2008 at Hazel Grove.

On offer to the winners was a golfing break for four to Menorca’s Son Parc Golf Club, a prize claimed by Northenden’s Graham Culpan and Anne Croasdale with their 43-pointer.

Three points adrift were Saddleworth’s Stuart Cummings and Liz Hinchcliffe who won £300 worth of Golfino Sportswear vouchers.

For good measure, Hinchcliffe also ended the day by winning the nearest the pin prize for ladies.

Back at Saddleworth, Dave Chapman (135) won their 36-hole Committee Cup while Muriel Makin’s 32 points gave her top spot in a ladies singles Stableford.

Oldham’s ladies had mixed fortunes in their latest Lancashire Shield silver division double clash with Ashton-under-Lyne.

They won 4.5-2.5 at Oldham with Mary Buckley, Joyce Beech, Linda Hall and Edythe Turner winning and Karen Phanco gaining a half.

However, they were beaten 4-3 at Ashton despite wins for Turner, Sheila Antrobus and Marjorie Bray.

Oldham shared the spoils in their bronze division game at Worsley, 2.5-2.5, with Lynn Cotton, Linda Bailey and Florence Jacks picking up the points.

Crompton and Royton ladies were also in bronze division action against Dene and edged a close 3-2 success with Margaret Bailey, Sheila Parkinson and Jennifer Sykes providing the winning points.

The latest games in division A of the Oldham and District League brought wins for Oldham and Brookdale against Stamford and Werneth respectively, although Saddleworth were beaten at Ashton.

Brookdale were the only victors in division B, winning at Werneth, while Saddleworth and Oldham lost to Ashton and Stamford respectively.
