Happy New Year for Diggle

DIGGLE FC’S first team opened 2008 with a 4-0 thrashing of Slaithwaite United in division one of the Huddersfield League.

Diggle’s only reward in the first half came from Charlie McGrath’s goal.

The second period was even more one-sided than the first but Diggle had much more to show from it.

Having seen Slaithwaite hit the post, McGrath was on hand to drive home his second of the game from 10 yards.

The third came when Steve Scoltock rolled the ball into the empty net after Warren Edwards had tried to round the United keeper.

Diggle’s final goal saw Scoltock combine with fellow substitute Leland Mayall as a series of one-twos ended with Scoltock sliding the ball under the goalkeeper.

Elsewhere, Diggle’s third team drew 1-1 at home with Slaithwaite

Harlequin produced their worst display of the season going down 5-0 at Asia in their Rochdale Online Premier Division match.

A goal down at half-time, the game was finished off as a contest with four goals in a devastating 15-minute spell at the start of the second half.

Santos closed to within two points of the division one leaders after wininng 5-3 at Syke.

A scrappy game saw Martin Green (two), Adam McKinney, Russell Clarke and Gareth Smith give Santos victory in their first outing for four weeks.
