Latics fight negativity

AN amazing behind-the-scenes war of words has rocked Boundary Park and Oldham's assistant manager Tommy Wright admitted: "It has been a trying week for everybody at the club."

It follows a controversial interview with managing director Simon Corney on the Latics website which sparked anger among players and management.

Wright explained: "Things have been said that shouldn't and there has been a lot of negativity around the place.

"We are seventh in the league and not far off an automatic promotion place and the players don't deserve the criticsm they got.

"It was way out of order.

"To be honest, it was a bit hard to lift the players for this Cup game. They looked down, there was a bit of rumbling in the dressing room and it was a difficult job.

"The important thing is that we are still in the competition."

But it looked over and out at half-time when the jaded Latics were two goals down following a fifth minute strike from Scott Murray and a 45th minute penalty by big Lloyd Owusu.

But Chris Taylor grabbed a penalty at the second attempt after the keeper beat out his first shot then Danny Whitaker got a deflection for an equaliser with 14 minutes to go.

OLDHAM: Crossley 7, Hazell 7, Gregan 6 (Maher 7, 46 mins,), Stam 6, Lomax 8, Taylor 7, Allott 7, Whitaker 7, Jones 6, Alessandra 6, Smalley 6.

What is your verdict on the game? Have your say.

Mr Corney is right to make his voice heard as managing director, however its not the players who should be going its Sheridan that should be down the road. He's flippin tactically clueless, we would never been in this morale sapping mess under the tutorship of somebody like Ronnie Moore.
