Sheridan aware of threat from County

OLDHAM Athletic boss John Sheridan is hopeful his team can return to winning ways when they face Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Friday.

Draws against Hartlepool United and Huddersfield Town in their last two games have kept Latics at the top of League One ahead of Scunthorpe United, albeit on goal difference.

With County adapting to life back in the English football’s third tier following play-off success last season, Sheridan is targeting three points to continue his side’s unbeaten start to the season.

He said: "They’re a good footballing side, so hopefully we’ll take a big following there. It’s a good game for us and hopefully we can get back to winning ways after two draws."

Stefan Stam is in pole position to keep his place with skipper Sean Gregan sitting out the second game of his three-match ban.

However, changes may be in the offing with Richie Byrne challenging for a starting spot

Sheridan said: "I think Richie’s ready to get in the team. His performances in the reserves are telling me he’s worth a place and it’s in my mind. There’s players itching for a place. Craig Davies wants a game, (Chris) O’Grady wants a game, (Deane) Smalley wants a game – I might throw someone in for a bit of freshness."
