Leeds boss: "It was a freak result"

LEEDS United boss Gary McAllister believed his side suffered a 'freak' result after watching Latics beat them 2-0 at Elland Road.

Chris Taylor's second-half double was not the way McAllister wanted his side to start their home campaign following the opening day win at Scunthorpe United and midweek Carling Cup victory at Chester City.

"In football, there's times when things don’t go well and sometimes you play games where you say they did something tactical we couldn't cope with or they were technically better. I don't think it was any of those. I think it was a case of us not having any players who were at it today.

"I've got to be thinking that’s a bit of a freak. Things have been excellent in the last two or three weeks with a good start at Scunthorpe and backing it up with a decent performance at Chester, but we dropped off the pace today.

"It was purely down to performance level, it simply wasn't good enough. The anger is burning away in me so I'm going to reflect, watch the game, have a chat with the coaching staff and then we'll sort it out.

"We can't go pointing fingers at any particular individual, it was one to 11. I didn't see it coming, I felt the players were coming here brimming with confidence and looking to put on a nice opener for the fans.

"They were scrappy goals, poor goals. I don't take any positives from it at all."
