Thompson's tonic for Sheridan

DEFENDER John Thompson has given Oldham a pre-season boost by returning to training.
The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international figured in only six league starts in the last campaign after picking up knee damage that finally needed surgery.
Thompson, who also broke his nose three times, has come through a tough schedule during the summer in his bid to be ready for next month's kick-off.
Latics boss John Sheridan said: "Touch wood, the operation will have done the trick after a frustrating season."
