LATICS boss John Sheridan is keen to bolster his squad with the free-signing of 31-year-old midfielder Kevin Maher, who left Southend United this summer after ten years.
Sheridan is eager to add more leaders to the Boundary Park dressing-room, and sees Maher, who captained Southend for six years, as an ideal signing.
He said: "Kevin is a very good player who has won promotion from this division before. We need people who organise and boss people around."
Maher is currently training with League Two outfit Gillingham, but Latics managing director Simon Corney hopes the promise of League One football will bring the player north.
"We have made Kevin an offer and we are now waiting for him to get back to us", he said.
