Early donation

16/ 7/2008

THE Roughyeds have been given an extra financial boost ahead of Thursday’s home game with Doncaster.

Residents of a block of privately-owned luxury apartments in Chadderton have donated £45 to the Roughyeds’ fund for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and Genesis.

"What the club is doing is fabulous," said Carol Andrew, the general manager of the complex, "and the residents had no hesitation in deciding to make a contribution."

They had raised £90 from a clothes party and decided to split it between the Children’s Society and Oldham Rugby League Club’s fund for their two adopted charities.

Mrs Andrew called in at the Roughyeds’ office to hand over the £45 and promptly purchased – for another £45 – one of the limited edition all-pink replica jerseys which the Oldham players will wear against Doncaster.

She added: "I’ll be wearing the pink jersey and I’ll be at the game with my husband Kenny, my daugher Jessica and my mum Shirley. We are all regular supporters, but the Doncaster game is going to be something really special and we wouldn’t miss it for the world."
