Taylor set to boost Sheridan?

CHRIS Taylor may be in line for a first-team return as Latics bring the curtain down on their 2007/08 home League One season against Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

A virus meant the winger missed last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Northampton Town with Jason Jarrett stepping into his shoes.

With Crewe the only other remaining game of the season, Sheridan wants his side to at least end the campaign with a bang.

He said: "There’s two games to go and I want to try and win those games.

"We’ve done alright in patches but I want to get out of this division. Some of our performances over the season have been poor and some have been excellent; I want a better balance."

Cheltenham head for Boundary Park knowing that a repeat of last season’s 2-0 win will almost certainly ensure survival for another year.

They are presently fifth from bottom, four points ahead of AFC Bournemouth and three clear of Gillingham who are in the final relegation position.

Speaking after their 3-1 defeat against Crewe last weekend, Town manager Keith Downing said: "At Christmas time we were six points away from safety and now we go into the last two games three points above the line, so putting it into context, we can’t be too down about it.

"We’ve got to pick ourselves up, plan for Oldham and see if we can finish it there."
