Gregan’s good news

16/ 4/2008

LATICS skipper Sean Gregan received some good news when an X-ray revealed he suffered no more than bruising to the foot during the 2-0 win over Leyton Orient last weekend.

Gregan hobbled off 11 minutes from time at Boundary Park having accidentally kicked the bottom of an opponent’s foot midway through the second half.

With Athletic still having a number of senior players absent, Gregan’s possible availability for Saturday’s trip to Northampton Town is a boost for manager John Sheridan.

Ten of his 16-strong squad against Leyton Orient were aged 21 or under, leaving Sheridan hopeful they will be all the better for their experiences during next season.

He said: "If I feel they’re playing well enough I’ll put them in the team.

"There’s lots of them getting first-team football earlier than they should be, but with the injuries we’ve had, it won’t be doing them any harm"
