Luton Town 3 Oldham Athletic 0

THREE goals in 15 first-half minutes ensured an injury-hit Latics side were well beaten at Kenilworth Road.

A match of two crisis clubs saw the hosts with only two points from 39 after going into administration, while Athletic only had 15 players available following an Achilles injury to Lewis Alessandra during training on Friday.

Teenager Ryan Charles opened the scoring after 20 minutes, controlling Richard Jackson's cross before beating on-loan keeper Richard O'Donnell. O'Donnell, signed on an emergency seven-day loan from Sheffield Wednesday 24 hours before kick-off, could no nothing about the second goal just after the half-hour.

Paul Furlong was brought down by Reuben Hazell when through on goal, and following the inevitable red card for Hazell, O'Donnell was sent the wrong way from the spot by Matthew Spring.

It went from bad to catastrophic moments later when Neal Eardley misjudged Keith Keane's crossfield pass, allowing Lewis Emmanuel to advance into the area before beating O'Donnell with a shot that flew in off the far post.

Deane Smalley came closest at the other end, twice forcing Dean Brill into good saves before the half-time whistle.

With the game effectively won, Luton took their foot off the gas in the second half, although O'Donnell was again called into action to thwart David Bell and Spring.
