Brighton and Hove Albion 1 Oldham Athletic 0

LATICS' away day blues continued on the South Coast as Glenn Murray's fourth goal of the season was enough to extend Brighton's unbeaten home league run to six games.

The striker, who cost the Seagulls £300,000 from Rochdale in January, decided the contest with the only goal of the game just after the hour.

It proved too much to overhaul for an Oldham team seeking their first away victory since knocking Everton out of the FA Cup on January 5. In all honesty, the home side deserved the three points as they were the more creative going forward, while Murray and Nicky Forster were a constant headache to the visiting defence.

A bright opening saw Mark Crossley called into action twice to thwart Forster and Dean Bowditch, while Andrew Whing saw his header blocked on the line. At the other end, Craig Davies shot wastefully over and injured his hamstring in the process, ending his day with 27 minutes gone.

Latics should have led at the break but Lewis Alessandra could only plant a free header straight at Michel Kuipers.

An entertaining start to the second half saw Chris Taylor shoot well off target for Athletic before they fell behind in the 61st minute. Left-back Matt Richards skipped past three players before playing in Murray who showed great poise to round the onrushing Crossley and place a shot beyond the recovering Stefan Stam.
