Old boy comes back to haunt Latics
Gavin Browne28/ 1/2008
ANDY Ritchie hailed the performance of debutant Robert Page after watching his Huddersfield Town team knock Oldham Athletic out of the FA Cup.
The 33-year-old former Welsh international was arguably the Terriers' man-of-the-match barely five days after meeting his team-mates for the first time.
His display, coupled with Luke Beckett's winning goal, meant it was Latics legend Ritchie who got the better of good friend John Sheridan as Town reached the last 16.
Ritchie said: "Robert was fantastic second half; he went down with a bit of cramp and I was shouting at him not to go up for corners and long throws - he could get up there, the problem was getting back!
"However, he showed why we got him in and hopefully he can keep that going. I think the rest of the lads deserved credit and it was epitomised by the way three or four players got in front of the ball to block a shot on goal late on.
"His (Page) communication skills are fantastic, we haven't got someone who pulls people around. That's what we needed, everybody gave their all because we knew we needed a battling performance as Oldham wanted to go into the next round."
