League is the main aim

LATICS boss John Sheridan admitted that the league will take priority over the FA Cup ahead of Saturday’s first round tie against Doncaster Rovers.

The match at Boundary Park offers Athletic the ideal opportunity to atone for the 3-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium a fortnight ago.

Sheridan said: “The league’s much more important than the FA Cup. I’d like to go as far as we can though because it’s very attractive and gives you belief that if you get a good draw, you can get a big club, have a day out and an upset might be on the cards.

“However, Doncaster will be a very hard game because they are in form.”

Latics warmed up for the game by beating Tranmere Rovers 1--0 at Prenton Park, their first league victory in seven games.

Craig Davies’ injury-time winner, his seventh goal of the campaign, proved enough to earn three points.
